Casterhäus is the oldest player-created organization in Barrow's Maw. It started as a place to house a few spellcasters and grew into a very wealthy, influential guild. It has expanded to include things like an orphanage, a university, and an overgrowing housing structure. Though it was previously led by rather unethical sorts, it is currently headed by Lydia, a good-aligned cleric who's been gradually steering it away from that reputation.

==== Founding ====
Once upon a time, there were two roommates. This eventually became the oldest and most convoluted organization known to the Axe and Sickle. 

"Casterhäus started as a place to store scrolls and chill out, but it has since become a massive fucking sprawl of horrid and unstable architecture (If you're familiar, think groverhaus but like eight times the size)((If you're not familiar, look it up. It's hilarious.)). Since its founding, casterhaus has added a full university where some of the characters teach during their downtime to earn money. It's honestly fucking ridiculous but tbh its great if you like hanging out with the failsons, faildaughters, and large adult children who reside in the Ohm basin."— Ro((This paragraph was copied near-verbatim from Ro. Members get their own room. Whenever a member wants more space, they just add a wing— which has resulted in the unique architecture in the nonce(('in the nonce' means 'currently', but is a tone more suited to a Lovecraft novel and thus this situation.)).

==== University ====
Purportedly the only accredited university in Barrow's Maw. Some say that it was originally conceived as a scam, but the authorities at Casterhäus assure us that was not the case and at any rate certainly is not currently.

The university also hosts a boarding school wherein children learn to be 'Arcane Achievers' or 'Divine Darlings'. Accusations of brainwashing have been frequently leveled, but Lydia's administration has made progress.

==== Warm Couch ====
Casterhäus boasts a crystal ball useable by all members— but that ball sits by the Warm Couch. Be it an accident of enchanting, a misunderstanding, or a prank((The oldest members know it was an accident. History records it as a stroke of genius, as is its wont.)), the couch is eternally uncomfortably hot. One must endure the discomfort to earn the right to using the scrying ball— or, that's what the Casterhäusers will tell you. In reality, the Warm Couch acts as a sort of opt-in hazing ritual.((One used it as a power move, employing seemingly-esoteric magic to effortlessly endure. In reality the spell was rather simple, but the panache and bravado was anything but.))
